The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Hanna Tetteh, affirmed that the love of Libyans for their homeland is “understandable and moving,” stressing that this national feeling is what will drive the country forward.
Tetteh explained, during her open online meeting with Libyans about the political roadmap last Thursday, that the United Nations is working with Libyans and their institutions to ensure that the people are at the heart of the political process.
The Special Representative of the Secretary-General added that every United Nations mission has specific rules and responsibilities.
Tetteh confirmed that the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) does not operate under the provisions of Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, in accordance with the Security Council resolutions that regulate its mandate.
