Tobruk – The Mayor of Tobruk, Mr. Faraj Abu al-Khattabiya, received a specialized American safety delegation today to discuss prospects for cooperation and the development of local capabilities in the cities of Tobruk and Derna. The meeting was held in the presence of members of the Municipal Council, the Diwan’s agent, and the directors of Human Resources and International Cooperation, in coordination with the General Command of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces’ Land Forces General Staff and the National Safety Authority in the Eastern Region.
The meeting focused on discussing several important initiatives aimed at raising the level of public safety in the region. Both parties agreed on the importance of organizing specialized training courses for safety sector personnel. These ten-day courses are scheduled to be held during September and October of this year in both Tobruk and Derna.
The meeting also reviewed a plan for field visits by the American team to several vital facilities within the municipality, including the National Safety Department, Tobruk International Airport, and the Tobruk Medical Center, to assess needs and provide technical recommendations for improving current safety procedures.
For his part, Mr. Abu al-Khattabiya stressed the urgent need to equip the safety department in Tobruk with modern and advanced equipment, pointing out that the department serves a large and interconnected geographical area, which requires significant capabilities to respond effectively to emergencies.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Mayor of Tobruk praised the pivotal role of the General Command of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces in supporting the municipality. He affirmed that this support, especially in the field of national safety, is a fundamental pillar for ensuring the security and safety of citizens, and he stressed the importance of continuing to provide the necessary training and equipment for this vital sector.
