In Benghazi, the prayer for rain was held in Al-Kish Square with the participation of hundreds of citizens. The sermon focused on the gravity of sins and their impact on the country and society, emphasizing that rain is a blessing from God that should not be met with heedlessness, and that supplication and repentance are the means to invoke mercy. The Benghazi Awqaf (Endowments) Office also broadcast the prayer and sermon live on its Facebook page, enabling citizens to follow the ritual and participate spiritually in the occasion.
The prayer for rain comes amid the delayed rainfall this season and the need of farmers and city residents for rain to alleviate the effects of drought across the country.
