Kufra – The Director of Kufra International Airport, Saleheen Abuhairi Al-Alwani, on Sunday welcomed a delegation from Turkish company TAV, a leading firm in airport construction and equipping, accompanied by a committee from the Development Fund, to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the airport’s facilities in preparation for an extensive modernization project meeting the highest international standards.
The visit included a field tour in which the delegation inspected the runway, passenger terminals, air navigation systems, and safety and security equipment, identifying infrastructure gaps and expansion needs to enhance operational efficiency.
Airport Media Office Director Hamad Fathi Fekroon told the Libyan News Agency that TAV will commence work once technical studies and designs are finalized, which he expects to be completed soon. The project will be implemented in phases to ensure uninterrupted airport services.
Fekroon described the initiative as a strategic step to strengthen Kufra Airport’s role as a vital hub connecting southern Libya with other cities and neighboring countries, boosting passenger traffic, supporting air cargo, stimulating economic activity, and creating job opportunities for local residents.
