At least two people from the same family died as a result of the torrential rains that have fallen in the last 24 hours in the northwestern Libyan city of Gharyan, local media reported on Monday.
According to the press reports, the two fatalities (two men) were found in their vehicle after it was swept away by water in a ditch in the center of Gharyan, located 75 south of the capital, Tripoli.
The mayor of said city, Yusuf Badiri, who informed that the Red Crescent of the city took medical and legal measures for the two corpses, declared a state of emergency and suspended studies in all educational institutions due to the high level of rainfall registered in the last hours.
According to the local press, the Gharyan emergency services received several reports indicating that there were cases of citizens who remained blocked when passing through the main Jado road in this city.
The storms that affected the capital, Tripoli, and its outskirts since Sunday morning caused the flooding of the main roads and the temporary suspension of studies in different cities.
