UN Adviser on Libya, Stephanie Williams, has said the political process that produced the agreement for the interim Government of National Unity (GNU), and most importantly the roadmap towards national elections, extends up until June of this year.
“I believe it is important for us to see an electoral event in this time for the Libyans who registered to vote and also need to have a target on the horizon,” Williams told CNN on Tuesday.
She pointed out that Libya’s state of chaos and legitimacy crisis facing its national institutions can only solved by holding elections.
“Libya has been in a state of crisis and chaos for 10 years and all of its national institutions are facing a crisis of legitimacy, which can only be solved by allowing the Libyans to go to the ballot box,” Williams said on Amanpour televised program.
