UN Development Program (UNDP) has issued its 2023 report listing its achievements in Libya, focusing on “local peacebuilding, strengthening democratic governance, and advancing our energy and environmental initiatives,” as reported.
UNDP’s 2023 Annual Report highlighted some achievements of the Program in Libya, including:
- Enhanced access and quality of basic services for over 832,859 people across 21 municipalities.
- Created 704 new jobs, fostering economic opportunities.
- Established the SURGE and crisis response teams to support rapid assessments and long-term recovery planning.
- Facilitated the distribution of voter rolls to 2,000 polling centers nationwide, supporting a more transparent and accessible electoral process.
- Supported legal empowerment for women by training 98 female lawyers across eight municipalities to promote participation in the justice sector.
- Supported Libya’s transition to renewable energy sources and improved energy efficiency as critical components of the National Sustainable Energy Strategy.
UNDP vowed its “commitment to supporting Libya’s path to sustainable development, peace, and prosperity remains steadfast”, thanking all its partners for “their continued support and collaboration.”
