Benghazi – The Military Information Division of the General Command of the Armed Forces stated this Thursday. Military units from the General Command traveled from Benghazi to Sirte. They are preparing to participate in the annual ‘Flintlock 26’ exercise. AFRICOM, the US Africa Command, organizes this exercise.
The Military Information Division indicated the exercise participation aims to enhance combat efficiency. It also seeks to raise readiness levels. International expertise will be exchanged. This includes counter-terrorism and combating illegal immigration. Joint military operations will also be conducted.
Maasad Boulos, US Presidential Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, held talks yesterday. He met with Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar. Haftar is the Deputy Commander of the Armed Forces. Their discussions covered various issues. These included arrangements for the ‘Flintlock 26’ maneuvers. The maneuvers will begin in Sirte this April.
The ‘Flintlock’ maneuvers are an annual military exercise. AFRICOM has organized it since 2005. It aims to enhance special forces capabilities in African countries. The goal is to combat terrorism. It also addresses security threats.
