Thirteen political parties in Libya welcomed on Thursday the decision of the House of Representatives to pass a law, which sets the criteria and conditions for presidential candidacy.

In a joint statement, the parties hailed the passing of the law as “historic accomplishment”, and called on the High National Election Commission (HNEC) to take all “necessary measures” to ensure that the presidential and parliamentary elections are held on December 24, as scheduled.

The signatories include: Civic Democratic Party, Libya Revival Bloc, National Forces Alliance, Centrist National Party, Youth of Tomorrow Party, Libya For All, National Will Gathering, The Libyan National Movement, The National Bloc for Democratic Building, Movement for December 24, Libya Elects Its President Movement, Derna Women’s Union and The Network for Support and Empowerment of Women.
