Tripoli – The Tripoli Criminal Court issued its verdict. This was in a financial corruption case at Al-Waha Bank. One accused employee received a 25-year prison sentence. The court also ordered him to repay 87,839,679 dinars. This amount resulted from banking operations.
These operations caused harm to public funds. He acquired illicit financial gains during them. This ruling is part of a series of verdicts. These concern five other bank employees. Their sentences ranged from five to eight years and one month. The court acquitted three defendants. They were cleared of the charges against them. All convicted individuals were exempted from criminal costs.
The court also deprived all convicted persons of civil rights. This deprivation lasts for the duration of their sentence. It extends for one year after their release. This forms part of the Libyan judiciary’s efforts. These efforts combat financial corruption. They also aim to protect public funds.
