The Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, affirmed that Libya today stands at a crossroads between “a life of honor, sovereignty, and dignity” or “humiliation, subordination, and tutelage.”
During his meeting with sheikhs and notables from the eastern, central, and southeastern regions in the Military City, Haftar stressed that the meeting of tribal sheikhs, notables, and elders must be a launching point for organized national action aimed at moving the country from a state of confusion and division to a stage of permanent stability and peace.
Haftar said, “The current stage cannot tolerate ceremonial meetings, but rather requires practical initiatives to assume the historical responsibility of building a unified Libyan state.”
The Commander-in-Chief affirmed that only its own people can protect Libya, and that a roadmap drawn outside its borders cannot build a free and fully sovereign state.
He pointed out that the Dignity Revolution defeated terrorism and paved the way for Libyans to achieve their ambitions, calling for this meeting to be the first step toward drawing a national roadmap in which everyone participates, based on law and institutions, and protected by the armed forces.
