State Council member Fathallah Al-Sariri said that he is not on the Sovereign Positions Committee but is in contact with its members, confirming the continuation of previous work related to screening files and candidates’ names. In statements to the “Libya Al-Ahrar” channel, monitored by Al-Marsad newspaper, he clarified that discussions are currently focused on the High National Elections Commission due to its link to the roadmap, and that the priority is to hold the elections as a first step.
A Complete Board and Prior Agreements
Al-Sariri explained that the issue at hand relates to forming a complete board of directors for the Commission, within the framework of prior agreements between the House of Representatives and the High Council of State. This would help end the transitional phase, unify state institutions, and move forward with implementing the roadmap.
Institutions Do Not Depend on Individuals
Al-Sariri emphasized his firm belief that institutions should not be reduced to individuals, pointing out that completing the agreements must be done without personalization.
The Role of the Presidential Council and the United Nations
He referred to the speech by Presidential Council President Mohamed al-Menfi before the United Nations General Assembly, considering it to offer a vision. However, he stated that Libya has become “internationalized” since 2011, making the role of the UN and its mission pivotal. This, he said, requires the integration of roles to ensure stability.
Navigating the Transitional Phase
Al-Sariri stressed that the convergence of visions and paths must contribute to Libya’s stability and pave the way for navigating the transitional phase toward permanent political and institutional stability.
