UN Acting envoy to Libya has visited the headquarters of the House of Representatives in Benghazi, where she met with several Libyan members of parliament.
They discussed the political process “that UNSMIL intends to facilitate in order to break the political deadlock, pave the way for elections, and restore unity and legitimacy to institutions,” UN envoy, Stephanie Koury said in a statement.
The MPs shared their perspectives on various aspects of the process, including the impediments to holding elections, the necessity of unifying Libya’s political and security institutions, and the importance of initiating economic reforms, according to Koury.
“Our discussion also emphasized the need to create a consensual framework for national reconciliation. The MPs expressed their willingness to engage constructively with UNSMIL in efforts to reach an agreement on the draft National Reconciliation Law,” she added.
