Tripoli – The Central Bank of Libya issued an official circular today, Sunday, to all commercial banks operating in Libya, stipulating the extension of daily working hours until 6:00 PM to facilitate the process of depositing the withdrawn currency denominations within the specified deadline.
The statement clarified that the decision includes the 20-dinar, 5-dinar, and 1-dinar denominations, and sets the final deadline for depositing these denominations in banks as September 30, 2025.
The Central Bank also stressed the necessity of transferring what is received of this currency to the vaults of the Issue Department at the Central Bank immediately and without delay, at the branches in Tripoli, Benghazi, Sabha, Al-Bayda, Misrata, and Gharyan.
The circular indicated that the Central Bank will continue to accept these denominations until October 9, 2025, warning against recirculating or issuing these currency denominations in the markets or through ATMs after this date.
It emphasized that banks will be subject to strict field supervision by the Central Bank’s Supervision Department to ensure full compliance with the instructions, with strict penalties to be applied for any violation.
This circular comes as part of the Central Bank of Libya’s plan to regulate the circulation of the national currency and to withdraw currency denominations circulating outside the banking system in an organized manner that ensures the stability of the monetary and financial situation in the country.
