EU Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, has stated that “the coming weeks are crucial” for the country’s political future. The declaration came during a meeting in Tripoli with Libyan Presidential Council Deputy Chairman Mousa Al Koni.
Ambassador Orlando urged all Libyan actors to put citizens’ interests above factional or personal agendas and to support the efforts of the UN mission, UNSMIL, in the critical period ahead. He reaffirmed EU support for UN Envoy Hanna Tetteh’s roadmap, which aims to end the political crisis and pave the way for national elections.
The discussions also covered political and security developments, with Orlando expressing EU concern over unilateral actions that undermine Libya’s territorial unity and reiterating the bloc’s commitment to the country’s integrity and democratic path.
