Benghazi – The “International Saddam Arabs Point” homing pigeon race concluded in Benghazi. Competitors from Libya participated. Several Arab and European countries also joined. These included Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, and France.
Mohamed Bin Ghraiba is an official at the homing pigeon point. He stated to the Libyan News Agency that 382 birds participated. Only 11 birds completed the final 500-kilometer race. Egyptian competitor Bassem Fahmy won first place in the final race. He received a car as the top prize.
Bin Ghraiba explained the competitions also included the “Ace Pigeon” category. This classification honors birds excelling across various races. It is based on their average cumulative speeds. Salem Abdul Salam Al-Shalmani secured first place in the “Ace Pigeon” category. He was awarded a car. Hassan Al-Aqouri came in second. He received a cash prize of 20,000 dinars. Meftah Al-Jazwi placed third with 10,000 dinars. Adel Al-Farsi was fourth, receiving 5,000 dinars. Mohammed Shaaban took fifth place with 4,000 dinars.
Ibrahim Al-Jamal from Egypt secured sixth place. Khaled Amqeeq from Zawiya came seventh. Mohammed Kamel Walid from Egypt was eighth. Hassan Al-Aqouri, with another bird, took ninth place. Each of these winners received 3,000 dinars in prize money. Mohammed Handak Loft from Egypt won a prize of 3,500 dinars.
Bin Ghraiba emphasized the importance of these competitions. They support enthusiasts and develop the sport. They also enhance competition among participants from Libya and abroad. This strengthens Libya’s position in organizing international homing pigeon races.
