Libya’s outgoing prime minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh has ordered the creation of the Electronic Aviation Authority, a new state organization that should oversee the use of civilian and military drones in the country, leaked document shows.
A leaked governmental decree which dates back to May 24 says that Electronic Aviation Authority will be established as a Tripoli-based entity affiliated with the government.
According to the decree no. 452, the new authority will have to regulate and supervise “all operations through which unmanned aircraft systems are used in the fields of defense, security, photography, detection, surveillance and patrolling, search and rescue, aerial propaganda and other fields”.
“All relevant technical and administrative cadres will be transferred to the Authority by the Ministries of the Interior and of Defense,” reads the decree.
In a subsequent decree no. 455 of May 25, Dbeibeh appointed General Al Hadi Ali Makhlouf Ibrahim as director this new authority.
