Deputy Interior Minister Faraj Akeem claimed on Sunday that shortage of fuel in Benghazi is a “manufactured crisis”, which he vowed to investigate.
In a public statement, Akeem said that fuel, namely cooking gas and diesel, are available in “large quantities in the warehouse.”
“There are fuel stations that deliberately shut down their pumps despite having abundance of fuel,” he said before promising to “hold them accountable.”
Akim, who serves in the cabinet of Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, said his ministry will deploy security forces to “provide safety for citizens at gas stations”.
