Tripoli – Libya’s Customs Authority met with a delegation from the European Union Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM), in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, to discuss ways to strengthen joint cooperation in modernizing customs operations.
The meeting took place at the Customs Authority headquarters in Tripoli and was attended by several officials from both sides. Discussions focused on supporting the ASYCUDA World system by implementing specialized training programs for experts and technicians involved in the computerized customs procedures project. These programs are designed to improve the efficiency of the system and enhance the skills of Libyan customs personnel.
Participants also reviewed plans to roll out the ASYCUDA system at the Ras Ajdir land crossing and link it with the central system as part of the nationwide customs computerization project. Ultimately, the goal is to apply an integrated customs system that covers land, sea, and air border posts across Libya.
The talks further addressed the possibility of offering advanced training in fields such as X-ray inspection image analysis, cybersecurity, and other technical programs to boost customs officers’ readiness and meet the evolving needs of border management.
The meeting also proposed field visits to various customs border posts to assess infrastructure and identify technical and logistical support needs for ongoing development projects.
Both parties agreed to conduct a training program for the national ASYCUDA project team in Tripoli in October. This training aims to further develop customs-related processes within the system.
At the conclusion, the two sides emphasized the importance of ongoing coordination and holding regular meetings to ensure effective technical support, maximize the benefits of cooperation, and advance the modernization of Libya’s customs administration.
