Sirte – The Sidra Gulf Municipal Council announced that the company carrying out construction of the dual carriageway west of Bin Jawad has discovered an archaeological site during excavation and preparation work. The site contains a cemetery, several ancient markers and historical artifacts, including pottery believed to date back to earlier eras.
In a statement, the council described the discovery as a significant addition to the region’s archaeological record, highlighting the succession of civilizations that have inhabited this part of Libya through the ages. Relevant authorities have been notified to take necessary measures.
Officials called for specialized archaeological surveys and studies to document the finds, determine their age, and assess their scientific value. These steps are considered essential to preserve this cultural and historical heritage.
Meanwhile, Mayor of Sidra Gulf Bashir Al-Naas thanked the security, judicial, and service agencies for supporting the municipality’s efforts and helping to promote stability. He stressed the importance of cooperation among all national institutions.
