Tripoli – The President of the Audit Bureau, Khaled Shakshak, received on Wednesday at the Bureau’s headquarters in the capital, Tripoli, the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Ms. Stephanie Khoury, and her accompanying delegation. The two parties discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the fields of governance and oversight of public funds.
During the meeting, Shakshak affirmed the importance of the role the Bureau plays in consolidating the principles of transparency, accountability, and combating corruption, stressing that these principles are fundamental pillars for good governance that ensures the preservation of public funds and raises the efficiency of government spending.
For her part, the Deputy UN Envoy expressed the mission’s support for the Bureau’s efforts, noting the importance of ensuring its independence and neutrality, due to its profound impact on enhancing the credibility of oversight work and the professionalism of its reports.
The United Nations delegation praised the launch of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy, which was prepared in partnership between the Audit Bureau and the National Anti-Corruption Commission, considering it an advanced step in the path of reforming state institutions and strengthening integrity and transparency in their management.
Khoury also referred to the briefing by the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Hanna Tetteh, before the Security Council on Tuesday, in which she praised the launch of the strategy and confirmed the international organization’s support for its implementation, pointing out that its success is contingent on the availability of serious political will and genuine support for regulatory institutions.
At the end of her visit, Khoury met with a number of the Audit Bureau’s employees, where she expressed her appreciation for their efforts in developing institutional performance, affirming the mission’s support for them to continue working towards improving the efficiency of oversight work and achieving good governance.
