Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, valued the Libyan House of Representatives’ (HoR) actions, granting legitimacy to the executive authority and exercising its oversight role, leading to the realization of the legitimate aspirations of the Libyan people of holding elections.
At the meeting of the 157th session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, Shoukry said that achieving social peace and preserving the identity and national fabric in Libya is an indispensable way to restore it to its desired stability.
He stressed that stability in Libya can only be achieved with the consensus of the widest spectrum of active Libyan forces to move towards the future without any dictates or foreign interventions.
Shoukry stressed that there is no room to talk about Libya’s sustainable stability, except with the full implementation of the resolutions issued by the Security Council and the outcomes of the Berlin process and the Paris summit regarding the exit of all foreign forces, mercenaries and foreign fighters from Libya without exception and within a specific time period until the country regains its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Shoukry affirmed that Egypt supports the efforts of the Libyan 5 + 5 Joint Military Committee (JMC) in this regard, and stresses the need for all parties to commit to stopping military actions in order to preserve the security and stability of Libya and the capabilities of its people.
