Jose Sabadell, the Head of the European Union’s Mission in Libya, and Khalifa Haftar, the General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), had met in Benghazi for talks on the security situation in the country, Sabadell stated via Twitter on Saturday.
“Met with General Haftar in Benghazi to discuss current events, security situation and withdrawal of foreign forces,” said the EU diplomat. “Focused on need for stability & unity, and on way ahead consistent with the desire for elections expressed by Libyan people.”
Sabadell said that he also confirmed the EU’s support to 5+5 Joint Military Committee “and to ongoing conversations to reunify military institutions as key components of peace.”
