Tripoli – Members of the Customs Center at Mitiga International Airport, in cooperation with the Anti-Smuggling and Drugs Unit of the Customs Authority, on Wednesday evening thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large sum of money estimated at €495,000. The money was in the possession of a Libyan passenger heading to Istanbul on a Libyan Wings Airlines flight.
The Customs Authority stated on its official page on Thursday that the center has taken the necessary initial legal measures, and the case file will later be referred to the competent judicial authorities to complete the investigation.
Through this operation, the Authority reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its efforts to combat the smuggling of funds and foreign currencies, in order to enhance the protection of the national economy and preserve public funds.
