United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres announced today the appointment of Stephanie Williams of the United States as his Special Adviser on Libya, replacing Jan Kubis who resigned a few weeks ago for health reasons.
Williams had been deputy to former U.N. Envoy to Libya Ghassan Salamé and went on to be Acting U.N. Envoy after the latter’s resignation in March 2020.
She served in this position until Kubis was appointed as the new U.N. Envoy in January 2021.
