The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) confirmed that armed clashes in the vicinity of al-Zawiya Power Station caused malfunction of the generation units of the dual station; the second gas unit and the second and third steam units.
In a brief statement, the Company explained that the clashes in al-Zawiya, west of Tripoli, led to damage and disconnection of the power drain circuits (Al-Zawiya – West) No. 1 and 2) with a voltage of 220 kV and (Al-Zawiya – Zahra) No. 1 and 2) with a voltage of 220 kV.
GECOL said that this will negatively affect the performance of the electrical network, and lead to an increase in the hours of unloading on Wednesday.
It indicated that its specialized technical teams will begin to repair the damage if the security situation in the area get better.
