Libya’s Government of National Unity (GNU) stepped up drone strikes on Friday against what it said were “smuggling gangs” in western regions, attacking targets in Zawia, Zuwara, Ajeelat and Maya.

The commander of the Libyan western military region, Major General Osama Al-Juwaili, commented on the drone strikes on sites that the unity government said belonged to human traffickers and fuel smugglers.
The Interior Minister of the Libyan Government, Major General Issam Abu Zariba, described the recent events in Zawiya west of Tripoli as shocking and painful for everyone, commenting on a military operation launched by the Government of National Unity (GNU) in Zawiya, for what it said was targeting the hideouts of smugglers, drug dealers and human trafickers.
Al-Zawiya city west of Tripoli witnessed violent clashes on Thursday early morning.
The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) confirmed that armed clashes in the vicinity of al-Zawiya Power Station caused malfunction of the generation units of the dual station; the second gas unit and the second and third steam units.
