Political activist and member of the National Front Party, Hammam Ghaliw, expects that the authorities will adhere to their commitments to move approximately 70% of the weapons and ammunition depots that have crowded the city of Misrata since the fall of the Gaddafi regime.
Ghaliw explained, in a statement to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, that the popular protests following the recent explosion at the “Al-Skhirat” ammunition depot were not met with opposition from the armed groups deployed there, attributing this to the fear the leaders of these groups have for their own families and relatives among Misrata’s residents.
He believes that the wave of popular anger could be renewed if the commitments are not implemented, especially since the rapid response in evacuating residents near the exploded depot helped limit the extent of human and material losses.
