Aqila Saleh, Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR), said the Government of National Unity (GNU) can freeze its agreements with Turkey because the legislative authority has not approved them.
The next president must bear his responsibilities, and if I run for elections and win, I will present the agreement with Turkey to the Parliament, Saleh stated in a televised interview.
HoR Speaker wondered how the High State Council (HSC) is advisory to HoR while it is against it; adding: “I say that the existence of HSC was to create and continue chaos in Libya, and that HoR is the only authority competent to issue legislation.”
The Libyans are the owners of the sovereignty, and they have the right to choose who governs, and that the elected president will be for all Libyans and is internationally recognized. The situation in Libya will change for the better after the completion of the elections, he pointed out.
“Any Libyan can run for elections, whether Saif al-Islam Gaddafi or others, as long as he or she meets the conditions for candidacy,” Saleh said.
