Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar has stepped down from his position as general commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), according to an official document obtained by The Libya Update.
Haftar appointed Abdel Razek Al-Nadori, the LNA’s chief of general staff, as his successor for three-month period, between September 23 and December 24.
It is noteworthy that the presidential elections law issued by House of Representatives requires all state officials to leave their position if they were to run for the presidential or the parliamentary elections on December 24.
By stepping down from his post, Haftar is now eligible to run for president as stipulated by the parliament’s law.
