56 migrants, on a 10-meter boat that left Zawia in Libya, were rescued at dawn, about 3 miles from the coast of Lampedusa, by Italy’s Guardia di Finanza, according to Italian news agency Ansa.
The group, most of whom are Egyptians, was transferred a “hotspot” in Lampedusa where there were 455 migrants are located, Ansa reports.
