The Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Council, Musa Al-Koni, held met today with the EU Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, and the Head of the EU Border Mission in Libya (EUBAM), Jan Vyčítal, in Tripoli.
According to Orlando, they discussed “several opportunities to strengthen the Libya-EU partnership, including EU support to Libya’s land borders through the One Desert Initiative.”
The One Desert Initiative is a jointed committee composed of representatives between the EU, Libya, Mali, Burkina Faso, Chad, Mauritania and Niger. The overall objective of the committee is to foreseen in the Joint Declaration of the Regional Conference, held in November 2022 in Tunisia. The conference aimed to “strengthen the regional cross-border cooperation between Libya and the Sahel, to share best practices on selected cross border management-related aspects and to identify areas of future improvement on cross-border management at national and regional levels.”
