A tree-planting campaign was launched today, Saturday, in the Wadi al-Kouf region, organized by the Faculty of Agriculture at Omar Al-Mukhtar University in the city of Bayda, with support from the General Command of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces. The campaign is part of efforts to replace trees lost due to recent fires that affected the region’s forests.
The campaign saw wide participation from students, faculty members, and college staff, alongside civil society associations and institutions such as the Libyan Red Crescent Society, the Al-Akhdar Club Supporters’ Association, and volunteers from among citizens and members of the National Army.
During the campaign, olive, carob, al-sha’ra, and a number of other local species are being planted to help restore the vegetation cover and preserve biodiversity in Wadi al-Kouf, which is considered one of the most important natural areas in Libya.
The Faculty of Agriculture at Omar Al-Mukhtar University affirmed that this initiative is part of its community and awareness-raising role to promote a culture of environmental protection, praising the spirit of cooperation and participation demonstrated by those involved in this national environmental event.
