Paris – Libya has joined the International Association of Lighthouse Authorities (IALA). IALA focuses on developing navigational guidance systems. It also enhances maritime safety worldwide. Libya is now the 47th permanent member of this specialized international organization.
Mohamed Hamouda, Chargé d’Affaires at the Libyan Embassy in Paris, submitted the membership file. He submitted it to the Director of Legal Treaties at the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. The handover ceremony was attended by Engineer Mohamed Salem Al-Siwi. He is the Head of the Ports and Maritime Transport Authority. Amira Al-Sakiki, a representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, also attended. The cooperation file official from the Libyan Embassy in Paris was also present.
This accession holds special significance. It will support Libya’s technical and institutional capabilities in managing navigational aids. It will also develop infrastructure for lighthouses and navigational markers. Furthermore, Libya will benefit from international expertise and best practices. This will enhance navigation safety in Libyan territorial waters. It will also improve the efficiency of ports and maritime services.
This membership opens broader horizons for international cooperation and knowledge exchange. It also supports the state’s efforts to modernize the ports and maritime transport sector. This aligns with international standards. It also serves trade and investment movements.
