Tripoli – The Libyan Mine Action Centre (LMAC) held events. These events marked the International Day for Mine Awareness. LMAC partnered with the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS). The International Security Enhancement Association also participated. This day is observed annually on April 4.
The event saw significant international attendance. Representatives from the European Union were present. Diplomatic missions also attended. Defense attachés from several friendly nations participated. Delegates from the World Health Organization (WHO) were there. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) also sent delegates.
Locally, delegates from several Libyan entities participated. These included the Military Engineering Department. The Criminal Investigation Department was present. The Arms and Ammunition Department attended. The Military Industrialization Authority participated. The Centre for Underwater Studies sent delegates. The Ras Ajdir-Musaid Coastal Road Implementation and Management Authority was there. The National Oil Corporation (NOC) participated. The Ministries of Health and Planning also sent delegates.
The International Day events reviewed LMAC’s past activities. This work was done in cooperation with international partners. Local partners also collaborated. Efforts focused on surveying contaminated areas. Clearing mines and war remnants was a priority. Raising awareness about these dangers was also key. LMAC continues its efforts. The goal is to provide a safe environment throughout Libya.
