The Italian Foreign Minister’s Special Envoy to Libya, Nicola Orlando, and Libya’s UN Representative, Taher Al-Sunni, have stressed the need to appoint a new UN envoy to Libya.
This came during their meeting in New York, according to Orlando’s tweet on his Twitter account, Friday.
The two sides considered that the appointment of a new envoy will contribute to accelerating the path towards elections, as it is the only solution to the current impasse.
Orlando also renewed his country’s support for the efforts of the United Nations for the stability and unity of Libya.
In a related issue, the Italian envoy met with the UN Assistant Secretary-General for African Affairs, Martha Pobee in New York City, where he urged the appointment of a new UN envoy to support the Libyan-led process towards elections.
