Libyan State Council Discusses Bathily Initiative on Elections with Italian Embassy

The Deputy Chairman of the Libyan State Council, Omar Al-Abidi, met with the Ambassador of the Italian Republic, Gianluca Alberini, at the Italian Embassy in Tripoli to discuss the United Nations mission’s initiative regarding the Libyan elections.

During the meeting, which took place on Wednesday at the invitation of the Italian Embassy, the two parties discussed the “5+1” initiative launched by the UN envoy Abdoulaye Bathily, which pertains to electoral laws and ensuring genuine and broad consensus among all political parties and partners to guarantee elections that all political parties would accept the results of, according to a statement from the media office of the State Council.

Al-Abidi and Alberini also discussed “ways to advance the political process and break the political deadlock to reach a comprehensive political settlement that achieves stability.” The meeting was attended by the Foreign Affairs Advisor to the State Council, as well as the Deputy Ambassador and his political advisor.
