Libya – The Mayor of Al-Kufra Municipality, Mohamed Boumariz, confirmed that the dollar’s rise directly affected citizens’ purchasing power. It also contributed to higher prices and increased poverty rates. Boumariz stated this in special remarks to Al-Raed news network. The network is close to the Justice and Construction Party. This party is the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood. He noted the city recently saw a significant decline in market sales activity. He explained that prominent reasons for this decline include the rising dollar price. Some traders are hoarding goods. There is also clear exploitation of citizens, especially in the southern regions.
The Mayor of Al-Kufra Municipality noted there is no shortage of food supplies within the city. He affirmed that goods are available naturally. Boumariz announced the launch of a modern electronic system. It will monitor vegetable prices. He stated it is the first of its kind in Libya. He added that vegetable prices are determined daily. This is based on supply and demand. A specialized committee appointed by the Municipal Council handles this. He pointed out that this system aims to regulate prices. It also seeks to reduce manipulation. Furthermore, it supports local production within the municipality.
