Istanbul – Libya’s Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Abdel Latif Mohamed Al-Taher, met with Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Ibrahim Yumakli, in Istanbul on the sidelines of the international “Zero Waste” forum.
The meeting was attended by Salah Al-Din Al-Kasah, Libya’s Consul General in Istanbul, as well as the Director of Planning and Follow-up at the Libyan ministry. The Turkish delegation included senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, such as the Director General of the Food Organization and the Director General of European and Foreign Relations, along with experts in international relations.
At the start of the meeting, Al-Taher thanked the Turkish side for their warm reception and hospitality. He expressed appreciation for the invitation to the international forum and emphasized the importance of strengthening agricultural and environmental cooperation. He highlighted the deep historical ties between Libya and Turkey.
The talks addressed opportunities for agricultural investment and ways to expand the involvement of Turkish companies in Libya’s agricultural projects. The delegations reviewed promising investment prospects and discussed enhancing economic partnership between the two countries.
Both sides discussed strategic issues including forest and natural resource management, development of rangelands and nature reserves, and programs for genetic resources, seed banks, and seed multiplication. They also explored experience sharing to improve agricultural productivity and achieve sustainability.
The discussions covered cooperation in modern agricultural technologies, digital agriculture, smart irrigation systems, and remote sensing. They agreed on boosting biosecurity measures, combating transboundary pests and diseases, and developing quarantine procedures for both agriculture and livestock.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the two ministers agreed to form a joint working group to oversee the implementation of the meeting’s outcomes. The international cooperation offices in both ministries will coordinate and set a timetable for future technical meetings.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of commemorative shields and a reaffirmation of the commitment to continued communication and coordination in support of joint interests and enhanced agricultural cooperation.
