The Libyan Government’s Ministry of Environment has issued its monthly report on air quality in the city of Derna for September 2025. Data from the air quality and weather monitoring station showed that all indicators fall within the first level (Good), according to the classifications of the World Health Organization and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
In detail, the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) was 21 µg/m³, very fine particulate matter (PM1) was 4.3 µg/m³, fine particulate matter (PM2.5) was 8.4 µg/m³, and coarse particulate matter (PM10) was 15 µg/m³. Meanwhile, carbon dioxide was recorded at 419 parts per million, total volatile organic compounds at 123.6, formaldehyde was not detected, and nitrogen oxides were at 4.2 parts per billion.
The report also monitored the accompanying weather conditions, recording a temperature of 23.3 °C, a relative humidity of 75.6%, and an atmospheric pressure of 985 millibars.
The report concluded that the air quality in Derna during this month was excellent and safe for health, indicating that the air is suitable for breathing and poses no health risks to the population.
