A news report published by the Moroccan English-speaking newspaper “The North Africa Post” has covered new international efforts aimed at supporting sustainable water management in Libya and enhancing its efficiency in the face of growing climate challenges.
The report clarified that Germany and the European Union have launched a new initiative aimed at improving water sustainability in Libya. It noted that the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) will be responsible for implementing the water resources management facility in partnership with the Ministry of Water Resources in the Dbeibeh government and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS).
The report indicated that the German and European sides will fund the initiative to enhance local capacities for efficient water resource management, by focusing on modernizing infrastructure, improving water use efficiency, and integrating modern technologies in the areas of management, distribution, and monitoring.
The report noted that senior Libyan, German, Italian, and European officials emphasized the importance of the initiative in securing Libya’s water future and ensuring the sustainability of its natural resources, considering it a strategic step towards developing the water sector and mitigating the impacts of climate change in the country.
