Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, received sheikhs, notables, and elders from the city of Zawiya, in the presence of Osama Hammad, Prime Minister of the Libyan Government, Lieutenant General Khaled Khalifa, Chief of the General Staff, in addition to Major General Essam Abu Zariba, Minister of Interior.
During the meeting, the Commander-in-Chief praised the patriotic stances of the sheikhs and notables of Zawiya, emphasizing that the cohesion and unity of Libyans are the true guarantee for overcoming the critical stage the country is going through.
He also pointed out that the Libyan state is suffering from a political crisis that has been reflected in the weakness of its institutions and the decline in their ability to perform their duties towards citizens, stressing that the solution can only be achieved through a national path decided by the people themselves without guardianship or external interference.
The Commander-in-Chief called on the sheikhs and elders of Zawiya to play an active role in raising awareness among the city’s residents about the seriousness of the current stage, and to place the nation’s interest above all else, given the city’s political and social weight that influences the general national scene and cannot remain outside the decision-making circle.
For their part, the sheikhs and notables of Zawiya expressed their appreciation for the General Command and its efforts in enhancing security and stability, affirming their full support for the armed forces and their firm national positions in protecting the homeland and preserving its unity.
