National Commission for Human Rights in Libya (NCHRL) has condemned the extrajudicial killing of blogger and activist, Tayib al-Shariri, by elements of the Misurata Joint Operations Force, affiliated with the Government of National Unity (GNU).
In a statement on Tuesday, the committee pointed out that the incident represented a grave violation of human rights, citizenship, the rule of law and justice.
The committee called on the Attorney General in Misurata to open a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of the shameful incident, to guarantee the rights of victims and those affected, end impunity and enhance accountability, guarantee the right to litigation and achieve justice for victims, and strengthen the rule of law and justice.
The Committee held GNU and its Ministry of Interior fully responsible for the escalation of extrajudicial killings, arrests and detentions without legal justification, pointing out that they constitute grave violations of human rights and international humanitarian law, crimes that do not have a statute of limitations.
