Tripoli – The European Union Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, affirmed the EU’s strong commitment. The EU supports the facilitation efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya. Orlando made these remarks in an “X” post. He had met in Tripoli with Hannah Tetteh.
She is the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative. Orlando stated that Tetteh confirmed her resolve. She plans to propose an alternative mechanism. This will be in her upcoming Security Council briefing. This is if the current stalemate persists. According to Orlando, both parties agreed on an urgent need. All concerned parties must renew active participation. This is to advance the electoral process. It is also to preserve institutional unity.
The EU Ambassador added that he reviewed the political roadmap’s progress with the UN envoy. He conveyed key messages from his extensive consultations. These consultations were with Libyan parties and local communities. He highlighted growing concern over the lack of concrete election progress. He also noted the worsening economic pressures burdening families.
