More than 600 migrants, including women and children, were intercepted off Libya’s shores on Wednesday by the Tripoli-based Libyan Coast Guards before they were returned Zawiya port (45 km west of Tripoli), according to the U.N. Refugee Agency (UNHCR).
“Some 675 persons (including 559 men, 92 women and 24 children) were just returned to Azzawya port (45 km west of Tripoli) after being rescued/intercepted by the Libyan Coast Guards,” UNHCR said via Twitter.
“UNHCR and partner IRC are present on the ground to provide medical and humanitarian assistance.”
