The Public Prosecution has ordered the detention of the Financial Controller at the Center for Educational Curricula and Educational Research, his predecessor, the head of the financial department, the chairman of the procurement committee, the director of the book department, and the center’s book warehouse keeper, pending investigation.
This came after the Anti-Corruption Prosecution, within the jurisdiction of the Tripoli Court of Appeal, followed up on information that revealed irregularities in the management of the center’s contract with a Jordanian printing company during the period 2020–2024.
The investigation revealed that the center’s officials received the primary school computer curriculum without ensuring the electronic version met specifications, and deliberately paid 85% of the contract price despite the center not benefiting from the supplied material.
The investigation also proved misrepresentation through contracting for the printing of a French language textbook outside the basic education curriculum, and misconduct by the official in charge of evaluating national printing companies, who certified the technical capabilities of some companies despite knowing they depended on external sources.
After confronting the accused with the evidence, the prosecution confirmed the waste of approximately 11 million dinars, prompting it to issue a pretrial detention order for them pending the investigation.
