Report: Libya is the cheapest in Africa for diesel fuel prices for 2025

Journalist: Libya failed to produce gasoline despite exporting oil for decades

An economic report published by the African website “Business Insider Africa” confirmed that Libya topped the list of the ten African countries with the lowest diesel fuel prices during October 2025, according to data monitored by the publication.

The report explained that Libya, along with Angola and Sudan, recorded no change in diesel fuel pricing during the mentioned period. This reflects the stability of government subsidy policies and the continued fixing of prices despite global fluctuations in energy markets.

The report indicated that keeping diesel prices low provides the benefiting African countries with several economic and social advantages, most notably reducing transportation costs and enabling trucks to transport goods more efficiently. This positively affects the prices of food, construction materials, and consumer products.

The report noted that the low prices also contribute to supporting the transportation and agriculture sectors and curbing the rising cost of living, which alleviates social discontent and promotes economic stability. It clarified that the price of a liter of diesel in Libya was only $0.028, surpassing countries like Algeria, Egypt, Angola, Sudan, Nigeria, Tunisia, Ethiopia, Gabon, and Liberia, which were among the next nine spots on the list.
