The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, Youssef Al-Aqouri, and Moscow’s ambassador to Libya, Aydar Aganin, held discussions in Benghazi on ways to strengthen educational cooperation and offer scholarships for Libyan students in Russia, in addition to reactivating joint agreements in the field of civil safety and disaster response.
Both sides also discussed the latest political developments and electoral laws issued by the House of Representatives.
The spokesman of the House of Representatives Abdullah Blehiq said that Al-Aqouri stressed the House of Representatives’ keenness to strengthen relations with Russia, expressing his aspiration for a Russian role to support Libya’s stability and remove all foreign forces and mercenaries.
For his part, the Russian ambassador stressed his country’s keenness to support Libya in holding elections, stressing that elections are the only way for the Libyan people to choose who represents them, noting that work is underway to open the Russian consulate in Benghazi during the coming period, to follow up relations and cooperation between the two countries.
