Aguila Saleh, Speaker of Libya’s House of Representatives, indicated on Monday that Saif al-Islam Gaddafi will not be legally allowed to run for president in the upcoming December elections due to the arrest warrant issued against him by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
“A person convicted by the International Criminal Court is not eligiable to run for the presidency of the Libyan state,” Saleh told the House during a parliamentary session on election law.
The son of late Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi had told foreign press in a recent interview that he intends to launch a bid for presidency.
