The Head of the Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency, Major General Salah Mahmoud Al-Khafifi, discussed with the Chairman and members of the Supreme Police Council, Major General Ramadan Al-Wahishi, the agency’s workflow and its ongoing achievements.
The two parties agreed to form a joint committee to prepare and process laws related to illegal immigration, and to draft them for presentation to the Legal Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives for approval.
It was also decided to amend the criminalization laws to include punishment for anyone who facilitates the entry of illegal immigrants or provides them with shelter or transportation, with penalties stiffened to imprisonment for a term of no less than five years and confiscation of property used in the crime.
Some articles that allowed for settling with financial fines were also repealed to ensure a genuine deterrent for offenders.
The meeting emphasized that this cooperation reflects the unity of efforts between the Supreme Police Council and the Agency to enhance national security and establish deterrent legislation to curb the phenomenon of illegal immigration.
